A website that serves ads based on CPI doesn’t need the user to click on the ad – each appearance of the ad in front of a user counts as one impression. The advertiser agrees to pay the website a certain price for every 1,000 impressions the ad receives.

Cost per impression is also known as cost per thousand, or CPM (the letter "M" is the Roman numeral for 1,000)."

CPI follows a pricing model that is closer to the print style of ad sales, with advertisers paying a set price just to show their ads. A great article I found about how important promotional products can be is written by Sujan Patel. He describes how he unintentionally fell into very profitable marketing brilliance.

He claims to have made over $500k in revenue by giving away t-shirts! He says that he had shirts made for his business so that he wouldn't have to worry about CLOTHES SHOPPING!

Patel says that he purchased about 25-30 shirts and since he realized he had so many, he offered some to his friends. Quickly, he realized that there was a growing number of people who were not only accepting of his free shirt, but were thanking him for providing them with one.

He states that once he realized the demand for shirts, he built an email list of people interested in receiving a shirt.

Since then, he claims that the demand gradually increased and people began recognizing him because of the shirts and directly based on this marketing move he has made over $500k in revenue!
