Does what you believe shape the way You do business?

Companies with Christian Roots

Henry Ford said, "Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right."

What we believe plays a huge part in the things we do, especially when it comes to owning a business.

We have to start with a good foundation because it's too easy to get on the wrong track and the wrong track is one of the easiest ways to drive your business into the ground.

I believe that the best foundation is one on The Rock... And no we aren't talking about Dwayne Johnson, but The Lord, Jesus Christ.

Here 's a list of businesses that started their foundation on The Rock.

Chick-fil-a is one of the most well known companies these days for having Christian values.

S. Truett Cathy was a devout Southern Baptist who decided to base his company on biblical principles. Their motto was, "To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us. To have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A." Chick-fil-a is also noted for being one of the few remaining companies that close Sunday.

These principals have made Chick-fil-a stand out amidst the competition. Despite some negative feedback, Chick-fil-a has continued to set the stage for other companies to follow in standing by his faith.

"We must motivate ourselves to do our very best, and by our example lead others to do their best as well." - S. Truett Cathy

Another fast-food name that has made waves by it's faith stance is In-N-Out Burger. This chain was founded in 1948 by Harry Snyder and Esther Snyder.

They are noted for the Bible verse inscriptions located on their packaging. They reportedly began this after Rich Snyder became the company President in 1976, in order to share their faith.

Tyson Foods is another Christian based business to look out for when you are hungry.

The Founder, John Tyson, was raised in a Methodist Church and provides a Chaplaincy Program that has been in place since October 2000. This program benefits Tyson Foods employees as Tyson says that it "provides compassionate pastoral care to Team Members and their families."

Interstate Battery is another company that employees Chaplains within their organization.

Norman Miller, Founder of Interstate Battery has built his company to "glorify God as we supply our customers worldwide with top quality value-priced batteries."

He is a board member for the Dallas Theological Seminary, Dallas Seminary Foundation, and the Overseas Council. He is also the Co-Founder of the Great American Race, America’s premier vintage car event.

Miller was extremely convicted by reading John 12:32 and has been inspired to “lift up Christ so that He might draw the people of his city to Jesus.”

Hobby Lobby is another big name among those owned by professing Christians.

David Green, Founder of Hobby Lobby runs his company with the motto, "honoring the Lord in all we do by operating the company in a manner consistent with Biblical principles."

Despite some negative press, Green believes in sticking to his values, despite all odds.

Also well know is the company Curves, founded by Gary Heavin, a professing born-again Christian.

Heavin also believes in contributing his money to organizations that he believes express like values.

eHarmony is another company that originally believed in using Christian principals as a foundation for success. They boast of being the #1 trusted dating source for singles across the United States.

Dr. Neil Clark Warren, Founder of eHarmony was formerly the Dean at Fuller Theological Seminary and began eHarmony by targeting the Christian demographic. They have now, however, have broadened their demographics and their culture has changed to alternative demographics as well.

Although many companies build their business on The Rock, loving money more than faith is one thing that a number of companies have fallen victim to.

So, be sure to set your priorities straight from the beginning and never veer from them. Even non-Christians are using business principles from the Bible to grow their business. IF they can see the need to base your company on loving what you do and loving others, maybe there is a good reason for the fact that so many successful start-ups are using them.

Just remember this: Everything to know about business can be learned by studying & knowing The Lord, not because he has the answers, but because He is the answer to all that is good. The creator always knows the most about his creation.
